Reflecting on 2024 and Embracing 2025
As the last day of the year approaches, I find myself reflecting on the past 364 days. It’s remarkable how much has changed—though, as they say, change is the only constant (well, that and taxes). While it’s cliché to talk about goals and resolutions on this day, I genuinely believe that by planning, writing down intentions, reviewing our values, and setting clear goals, we become closer to the people we aspire to be.
Once we know what we want, the key is breaking down those goals into actionable steps that fit into annual, monthly, weekly, and daily tasks. Progress happens one day at a time, and every small step moves us closer to our goals.
2024 Retrospective
Reflecting on 2024, I see that my successes stemmed from actions I personally took. For instance, I made my health a priority—sweating 3–4 times a week, reducing sugar, and increasing protein intake—and I lost weight and gained muscle.
On the other hand, my frustrations came from wishing others behaved differently or reacted in ways I preferred. These moments reminded me that we can’t control others—whether they’re family, friends, colleagues, or strangers. When I got upset, it was because of my own expectations, not their actions. Recognizing this has shown me that the work I need to do is within myself.
Looking Ahead: Embracing the “Let Them” Theory
In 2025, I’ve decided to fully embrace Mel Robbins’ “Let Them” Theory. If you’re not familiar with it, check it out here: Mel Robbins - Let Them Theory.
The reason this resonates with me, and with so many others, is the realization that we cannot control anyone except ourselves. While I understand this concept in theory, putting it into practice is another challenge entirely.
Goals for 2025
In 2025, I want to reset how I view life by focusing inward. If you’ve followed my blog, you’ll notice this theme is consistent—it’s something I’m always working on. Being human means embracing growth, and I aim to value myself more while encouraging others to do the same.
Next Year’s Energy
As a recovering workaholic and people pleaser, I plan to focus on three areas: physical, professional, and financial. By “letting them,” I’ll also “let me” grow in these aspects of my life:
Physical: Sweat once a day by practicing yoga daily, taking 10,000 steps, and weightlifting 2–3 times a week. This routine ensures my long-term health.
Professional: Let go of perfectionism. I’ll focus on doing what’s within my control and embracing a lighter, more joyful approach to work—something inspired by Matt, who brought fun and positivity wherever he went.
Financial: Shift my gift-giving focus to philanthropy. I’ll allocate a larger budget to causes I care about, like sustainability, community support, and keiki. Instead of buying material gifts, I’ll create experiences—volunteering with loved ones or sharing a meal as a meaningful gesture.
In addition to these priorities, I want to deepen my relationships with family and friends, giving them the time and attention they deserve.
