2013 Oscars – Amazing night!

Ahh the Oscars – the night to give excellence for cinematic achievement. Normally I am not one to tube in front of the TV for an award show but knowing that Les Mis was nominated for several awards got me hooked! Below are some of my personal highlights:

As a fashion fanatic, I loved seeing all the beautiful gowns that flowed on to the red carpet. I thought it was kind of funny how many of the men were sporting a beard. I guess L.A. is pretty cold now and they are trying to keeping warm. Charlize Theron really rocked that sexy pixie cut – it makes me want to cut my hair super short! Watch out Sheryl! I might be coming in for another hair cut! Color too!

Anne Hathaway: Congrats to Anne for winning Actress in a Supporting Role. She is one of my favorite actresses and her performance in Les Miserables was unforgettable.

I think the BEST performance was when the cast of Les Miserables sang, “One Day More”.
Hugh Jackman is sooooo dreamy!!!!! SWOON! Seriously such ana
amazing actor and did an amazing job getting into your heart and making you feel how he felt. LOVE HIM!

Other amazing performances include, Dream Girls, Chicago, Adele, Nora Jones, and of course Barbara Streisand.

Adele: Congrats to Adele for winning music and lyrics for “Skyfall”. I love Adele, she is an amazing singer and tonight was no different! I am not the biggest 007 fan, but listening to her song makes me kind of want to watch the film! Her make up and dress were so beautiful!!!

Nora Jones: Isn’t she just the cutest? She looked gorgeous and the whole looks definitely fit with the song she sang, ”

There were  couple of movies that I was not able to see in theaters, one being Life of Pi and Anna Karenina. Hoping to rent it soon! Have you guys seen these films? Any thoughts?

What was YOUR favorite part of the Oscars? Any favorite movie? Actor/Actress?

Fun Things in 2013

Yesterday I had a couple friends over for dinner and discussed what we were looking forward to in 2013. The main topic we discussed were movies. Most people know that I am always running around doing all kinds of stuff so when I watch any movie – there is a 95% chance that I will fall asleep in the movie. However, it is a new year and I plan to watch more movies rather than sleeping through them! It’s a pretty expensive nap if you ask me!

Some of my top movie picks are:

One of my favorite movies that just came out is Les Miserables, check out the trailer below – it is a TOTAL must see!

Other things I am looking forward to in 2013:

  • Learning to ride a bike
  • Eating home lunch 4 times a week
  • Finding a career/ position that I am passionate about
  • Attending Egan’s Fit Body Bootcamp regularly
  • Sleeping at the same time regularly
  • Summer weather to start swimming
  • New Lululemon designs (guilty pleasure)

What are you looking forward to in 2013?

Short Story – Hairy Truth

Its been a couple of days since I have cut my hair and let me tell you, a little goes a long way. I love my hair cut and I can quite honestly say that I think the change was for the positive.

In the morning, I am not rushing around blow drying my hair and then straightening it – it is short, sweet, no fuss!

Previously my hair was a lot lighter, and I love having light hair – it makes me feel like I could look like a beach bunny when the reality is that I am working most of the time indoors.

With the darker hair, I know my Chinese mother is happier as I look like a “Chinese girl” and not a “cheap girl”. Ahh… gotta love Chinese mothers for always telling us the truth!  Speaking of which…

Many of my close friends know that I am obsessed – OBSESSED with a capital “O” with cutting my hair and this is not as short it has been – I have had faux hawks, pixie cuts – seriously, any and all short hair cuts, Ive done it! Maybe this stems from when I was a child, my parent always made me have short hair. I used to resent it but now I really love embracing it!

Don’t get me wrong I do love the look of long hair – and I do wish I could grow out my hair so it would be flowy etc etc. And I have been told by a number of guys that long hair is “hotter” than short. Well, to my guy friends that think only long hair is hot – two words: Halle Berry! Okay, Im sorry I will tone done the obsession!

Everyone keeps telling me 2012 is the year of change! Life is too short to always stay the same, change it up – and any change, big or small is good! You can always start with a hair cut – like I did! It’s amazing how changing your appearance can lead to many other great things!

Chop Chop!

So I am thinking I need some change, I currently have had my Victoria Beckham bob for about 4 years. In between the 4 years I have tried to grow out my hair numerous times – without success. Once my hair gets to a certain length, I get headaches, and it gets to be a pain to take care of (I give you ladies with long locks props!).

What do you think about the Halle Berry look?

Cardigan Addict!

I think that while one of my plans is to save money 2011/2012, I can still window shop online. I saw this cardigan and fell in LOVE! I love chunky knits!

About Face

Since I was a little girl, my mother has always talked about how skincare is SO important. Like many Asian mothers, my mom would always emphasize how sunscreen is THE most important step in the 4-step cleaning process. Below is my daily routine that I would like to share for a fabulous fresh face:

Step 1: Wet your face, use a light facial cleanser and rub gently.
Currently, I am using Aveda’s Botanical KineticsTM Purifying Gel Cleanser which is cool to the touch. When you apply it on your face, you can start to relax as you smell the chamomile and lavender scents.

Step 2: Use a cotton ball and rub toner to take off excess soap and oil residue
The Clinique 3-Step Skin Care System has one of the best toners! I love the “Clarifying Toner” for oily skin, it helps take away the excess dirt and grime without drying out my skin. You can find this and other great Clinique products at Sephora or other department stores.

Step 3: Then lightly apply moisturizer all over
Clinique also has a fabulous moisturizer that is oil free that will still hydrate the skin. It leaves it feeling soft and smooth (ahh love!)

Apply all over the face and anywhere your skin is exposed.
I have been using Neutrogena’s Sunscreen for about 3 years now and I have to say that it is the best value. It is about $10-$12 found in all drug stores and its formula shields your skin from harmful UV rays.

It can be a hassle to upkeep this system, however, remember, your skin is an investment. You must protect it against the elements and be gentle with it. How do you care for your skin? What is your skin regiment? Any suggestions?

Love Thursdays

FINALLY!!! It is Thursday, which means it is Friday Eve. I LOVE Thursdays because everyone is usually in brighter spirits as the weekend approaches. Personally, I have a “Happy Thursday” dance that I do each week, to get me ready for the weekend! If you ask me about it IRL- I will deny it completely. But yes, a dance does exist! It is influenced by “The Dougie” dance.

This Thursday is special though because the Hearts on Fire Valentine’s Day Collection is coming in tomorrow! The Wedding Ring Shop specializes in the best value and quality of fine jewelry. Hearts on Fire is one of our premiere lines and we will be bringing in variety of necklaces, pendants, earrings and gift items galore! Don’t forget, Valentine’s Day is on Monday, February 14th, what are YOU going to do for your special someone? 🙂
